Young Catholic Scholars
The Young Catholic Scholars program is a renewable, merit-based scholarship,
awarded to Catholic students who are interested in a serious investigation
of theology. This program is characterized by: intense study of various
disciplines within Catholic theology, active participation in the St.
Lawrence Center outside of class, and a well written, 8-10 page, publishable
research paper each semester. Each student will take one, non-accredited
theology class taught by St. Lawrence staff each semester, for the duration
of the scholarship. The Center currently awards renewable $2,500 annual
scholarships, contingent upon maintaining a 3.0 GPA and completing the
above requirements.
Capital City Bank Topeka Area Scholarship
The Capital City Bank Topeka Area Scholarship is available to graduates
of Topeka-area high schools. Capital City State Bank will award a $2,500
scholarship. Renewal is contingent upon meeting the requirements of
the Young Catholic Scholars Program.
Seck Memorial Law Scholarship
The Leon B. Seck Memorial Law Scholarship is available to students who
have been active at the St. Lawrence Center and plan to attend the University
of Kansas School of Law. The Center will award a renewable $500 annual
scholarship. The recipient will work with the Director of Theological
Education to plan and direct Catholic Law Student Association Meetings.
Ave Maria Pre-Law Scholarship
This scholarship in the amount of $2,500 is available to seniors who
have been active at St. Lawrence and who are planning to attend law
school. Requirements include: participation in the Young Catholic Scholars
program, completion of the Law School Admission Test (LSAT), application
to the Ave Maria School of Law, Ann Arbor, Michigan, a cumulative undergraduate
GPA of 3.3 or better. Note: There is no obligation to attend the Ave
Maria School of Law.
Catholic Medical Ethics Scholarship
The purpose of the Catholic Medical Ethics Scholarship is to facilitate
the education of the recipient in the beautiful teachings of the Catholic
Church on medical ethics. The recipient of this award will learn not
only the teachings, but also the logical reasons behind the Church’s
stance on contraception, abortion, sexuality and euthanasia. The junior
or senior pre-med student who receives this $2,500 annual scholarship
will be required to attend classes taught by St. Lawrence staff, complete
reading assignments, spend time with Catholic fertility care-only doctors
and learn the science of Natural Family Planning.
O’Leary Scholarship
The O’Leary Scholarship is available to students from the Salina
Catholic Diocese who will be attending the University as a sophomore
or above. The Center will award an annual $1,000 scholarship which is
renewable if the recipient maintains a 2.5 GPA.
The Christine Lynn Pullo Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship in the amount of $1,000 per year is available to students
majoring in occupational, physical, or music therapy, speech pathology,
and speech, language, and hearing. In addition, the student must be
actively involved in St. Lawrence, take one course per semester in the
Catechetical Institute, meet periodically with the Director of the Catechetical
Institute, and maintain a 3.0 GPA.
Zamarippa Family Scholarship
The Zamarippa Family Merit Scholarship is available to sophomores and
above who are U.S. citizens of Mexican descent and have attained a 3.0
GPA in their previous college course work. Recipient will receive a
$500 award annually, contingent upon maintaining a 3.0 semester GPA.
Graduate Liturgical Music Internship
This award goes to an outstanding Catholic student organist who is pursuing
a graduate degree in Organ. Under the supervision of the Director of
Liturgical Music, the recipient of this award participates in all aspects
of the Music Ministry, including playing for liturgies and assisting
with the conducting and administration of choirs. The recipient of the
internship will receive a tuition scholarship stipend, and will work
20-25 hours per week.
Music Scholarships
Choral scholarships are available to a select number of students who
are interested in the pursuit of liturgical music leadership as a possible
vocation. These scholarships allow students to explore the field of
liturgical music, gain experience in the practical aspects of music
ministry and have a directed study of liturgical documents and associated
materials, under the guidance of the Director of Liturgical Music. Music
scholars are required to sing in one ensemble at the St. Lawrence Center,
must have previous experience in choirs and serve as choral librarian
for one choir. Recipients will be required to spend 8-10 service hours
per week at the Center. The Center will award multiple renewable annual
scholarships up to $2000.
Skolaut Family Outreach Scholarship
This $500 scholarship is available to a Junior, Senior or Graduate Student
who has at least one year of active participation in at least two St.
Lawrence Center programs. The scholarship will be awarded to the selected
Outreach Intern. Requirements include attending one class per semester
from the Center’s integrated curriculum, maintaining a 2.5 GPA
and, as part of the Internship, establishing a set 10 hour per week
work schedule with the Outreach Department.
